5 Tips for Energy-Efficient Air Conditioner Usage

There are some simple and effective tips to save electricity on air conditioning while still keeping the air cool and comfortable during the hot summer.

1. Turn off the air conditioning at night

Turn on the air conditioning during the day and turn it off at night. The reason is very simple.

First, the temperature at night is always lower. You can take advantage of this by turning off the air conditioning and opening windows. If the house has two front and back doors, you should open both to let the wind blow through.

Second, to have a comfortable sleep, your body doesn’t need the air conditioning to run at the same temperature as during the day. You can also turn off the air conditioning for 1-2 hours and still feel comfortable because the room has been cooled down beforehand.

2. Set the temperature properly and use the timer function

The temperature also significantly affects the electricity consumption.

Therefore, one of the energy-saving tips is to set the temperature at a proper level, enough to make you feel comfortable without making it too cold, avoiding overworking the air conditioning.

You should not set the air conditioning temperature lower than 8 degrees Celsius compared to the outdoor temperature. Additionally, you should also use the timer function to automatically adjust the temperature.

3. Create shaded cool spaces

You can’t turn off the Sun, but you can create shaded cool spaces for your home.

The easiest thing you can do is to close curtains, pull down awnings, etc., to make your home cooler.

For windows facing the Sun, you should use light-colored curtains to reduce the heat.

In addition, you can also plant trees near walls, windows, and verandas.

These actions help reduce the heat in your home, which makes the air conditioning work more smoothly.

4. Turn off heat-emitting devices

TVs, computers, printers, lights, ovens… all electrical devices in your home generate a significant amount of heat and force the air conditioning to work harder to control the temperature.

In addition, choose to eat cool dishes, cook quickly to prevent the kitchen from releasing too much heat in the summer.

5. Keep the air conditioning clean

Ensure regular maintenance of the air conditioning, replacing or cleaning the filters to maintain optimal efficiency.

Dirty filters make the unit work harder, which means it consumes more electricity.
